Gina Brown

Second Year Seminary 

Student Columbia Theological Seminary, Decatur, GA


Having spent most of her youth and early adult life unrepentant, God began calling Gina’s name in her early twenties.  To her this call promised a better life.  In the midst of already experiencing a great life she was curious about this promise from God and after much consideration she gave her life to Christ.  After almost 28 years of discovery in God, the journey has been amazing and only continues to heighten her curiosity about God, His Kingdom and how He relates to his people.

This journey of discovery has provided opportunity to see God moving in various settings such as varying denominations, faith traditions, races, ethnicities and economic backgrounds.  Through these experiences she has been able to develop an ecumenical skill set that has become a central component to her ministry which extends her the grace and flexibility to be able to understand, communicate and find common ground with persons of different faith formations.

Gina is a wife of 20 years to Isaac her bestie and mother to Zahria-Jade who is her heart beat.

Today Gina is an inquirer for ordain ministry in the Presbyterian (PC)USA faith.  She attends Decatur Presbyterian Church in downtown Decatur in Georgia.  Additionally, she is a student at Columbia Theological Seminary in pursuit of a Master of Divinity and a Masters of Practical Theology with an emphasis on Pastoral Care. 

Her goal is to produce ministry that is socially and culturally relevant to the congregants to which she hopes to serve.

Blue Note Preaching Assignment

Blue Note preaching assignment completed a unit in Preaching During Crisis and Trauma Introduction Artists are doing more  self-portraits   during the pandemic. It makes sense: what else can you do when you're stuck at home with nothing to look at but yourself, day after day? COVID-19 restrictions have made it difficult to hire models to paint, or to wander neighborhoods in search of human inspiration--and then get close enough to those faces to photograph them. The self-portrait, like the  Ars Poetica,  is a classic art form that most artists experiment with eventually; now, self-portraits have become a way to document our life in this pandemic. My First Day

Today, was my first day. I showed up, not as Mommy or Wife, but as Gina.  And although it was the mommy and wife roles that helped to process me to bring me to this day, Gina showed up today to stake her claim.  I've been wife for 20 years and Mommy or trying to be a Mommy for almost 10.  Today I began to sketch out the new imprint that I will embody. First day of Seminary. Zj had prayed for me. She said she had hoped that if there were any bullies, at my school, I would have the words to make them get away from me. Isaac kissed me goodbye and handed me my specially prepared lunch. I had so many emotions and swirling. I’m I good enough? Can I do it? I got emails and text messages from loved ones affirming my ability and faith in God. Thank you! Even people I had recently met since orientation took time out to wish me well on my first day.
